Here are some research that I done looking at other horror trailer, this will help give ideas on how to do our trailer and what should be in it, it will also show how the sounds should be during specific scenes and also how the lighting will be throughout. I noticed in these trailers that they used mostly close- up shots of the subject they are filming and have a lot of captions throughout. Also J-horror doesn't use blood in their trailer that I can see of. Most of the trailers I've researched, most of them use a voice over.

This trailer here is of a Japanese horror Ju-On (the original making of The Grudge which has been remade in America). There are many version of Ju-On that have been made with different storylines and this one here is the third out of the six. It starts with a caption followed by a shot of a room inside a house to set the scene. It then shows a charcacter which seems to be the protagonist of this movie, I can tell this because even though there are other characters, she appears the most throughout. The antagonist is also shown in this trailer a lot, the reason so maybe because it's not a teaser trailer. The main camera shot used is close ups which is one of the conventions of horror trailers. They used a voice over towards the middle to tell a bit about the story and music plays softly while this happens. |
Here is the trailer of Sadako 3D. Sadako was a character from The Ring in the original version and this has been made into 3D and release in May 2012 with similar storyline about a video tape but different things will happen. It starts with what I assume is the production company, then cuts to a girl who I assume is the main character as it keeps showing her. They build up suspense with sound effects adding more sounds when the montage starts. They have special effects on their captions which makes it look very old and mysterious, the way they edited the name of the movie at the end looks interesting and creepy too. |

This trailer here is of a Psychological horror similar to Paranormal Activity but came out before in 2005. It's been made like a documentary as throughout, we can see there are many handicam shots. It's not very clear who are the main characters in this film. It started of with the name of the company and the a few captions and then cut to three people. How the scene cuts from one to another is like a video player being distorted and voices of the characters with eerie music in the background. But when it cuts to the montage the music is louder. Towards the end they slowed down the shot and the voice to make it more scary. |
The last trailer I researched about is more of a slasher horror film series which is based on a manga the same name. This is the latest of the Tomie films. It starts of the productions and film company's names then to a caption and after it zooms into a killing scene. Throughout the beginning the lighting is very dark and it builds up slowly with scary music and the montage scene which I find very effective. There's also a voice over and other voices of the characters during the trailer. I can tell who the antagonist and protagonist is in this clip because it shows it very clearly. |
