Poster (Vi)
I researched on some existing horror film poster and have watched most of them that would give me ideas on how to do my one, I found it really helpful and gave me inspiration on what I could do.
Here is a poster from the horror film 'Muoi', it has two characters similar to our trailer. I like the idea of having the antagonist comes out of the frame behind them and how at the bottom they are in water. The color scheme of this poster is not too dark and gloomy like other posters. They follow the convention by having the title of the film at the bottom with the credits and the tagline on top. |
This poster is of the film 'Ouija Board', I partically like how the two characters half face is only shown and another one in the middle. The smokiness around the print creates a mysterious feeling. The main color I see is just blue and a hint of red orange. Again the tiltle is placed at the bottom but there are two tagline and it's placed at the bottom. |
This poster is of the movie 'White: Curse of the Melody' has the protagonist face with a close- up shot, the make-up on her face makes her very pale and almost white with thick eye-liner around her eyes and blood dripping down her face which may connote she is a ghost? With her looking straight into the camera, it makes the audience feels like she's looking straight at them, this is very effective even though it's a very simple poster. Here the title is at the bottom again. |
This poster is of the film 'Ghastly'. At first I didn't see the little boy next to the girl on the left, so I find it interesting that they have placed him there, also with the hand coming out of the pot makes the audience wonder who it is inside there. The two women characters really stand out from the whole posters because the lights probably focused on them the most to make us focus on them. Again with the smoke around creates a mysterious atmosphere. Once again the tiltle and credit is at the bottom and this time the tagline is placed in between the women. |
This last poster I researched on seems to be the darkest and gloomiest, dirty looking out of them all. The character's not looking at the camera this time and there seem to be a shadow on one side of her face and a bit of brain revealed. This time the title is placed on the left of the poster in white writing like the other three posters. I've also noticed that most taglines in horror print is in red which connoted danger and blood. |
Another poster I researched on is from Ju-On: The Old Lady In Black. We can't see the eyes of the character properly but we can tell she's looking straight into the camera. The lighting seems to shine mainly on the left side of the poster. The title is placed in the middle bottom of the main image in red and large help to stand out along with credits at the bottom. The poster is quite simple but effective. |
Magazine (LaiYin)
This magazine is called 'Fangoria' which is a horror magazine. With the use of masthead is connotes 'Fangs' which relate to the image which seems to be a vampire from the film twilight. Following magazines conventions correction the masthead is the larger text which jump out.
|
This magazine is called 'Total Film' which seams to be a magazine about all types of films. With the use of image and text they don't relate, which tell us that this magazine is promoting different films.
